Dr. Vanessa Chong
Dr. Chong completed her Master’s Degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario. She completed her training in 2012 and is registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists.
Dr. Chong has over 10 years of experience working in the public health care system and has worked with a wide range of mental health issues. She has training in several types of therapy, including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), interpersonal therapy, and a trauma-focused therapy called Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). She practices from an integrative perspective, combining multiple approaches in order to tailor the treatment plan to best address her clients’ issues and fit their personalities.
Dr. Chong often helps her clients with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, relationship problems, or major life transitions. She also has a special interest in trauma and PTSD. Therapy with Dr. Chong often involves exploring deeper underlying issues, such as childhood trauma, emotion avoidance, difficult interpersonal patterns, low self-esteem, and “unfinished business” from the past.
Dr. Chong has a biracial heritage and completed her Master’s Thesis and Doctoral Dissertation on the topic of racial-ethnic identity and family relationships. She incorporates cultural sensitivity and identity exploration into her work with clients when relevant.
